100+ Free Applications for Mac

UsingMac.com has categorized and arranged the order of applications so that it will be extremely easy for us to find applications for our Macs. Click here to view over 100 free applications for mac users. Most apps are free, other are trial versions.

Before you go a little download crazy, I recommend downloading AppCleaner first. It’s especially useful to delete those trial versions or programs you regret downloading. Here’s a list of apps that are still on my hard drive to this day.

Todos
Sometimes you just don’t want to take time going to your Applications folder or searching around your hard drive. Just click a quick hotkey (Command-Option-Control-T) and a pop-up will simply appear which contains the contents of your Application folder.

Evernote
If you’re looking for an application for organizing your data on the go or giving you access to your notes on your smartphone you’ll find nothing as easy to use or as well designed as Evernote. I use this application to organize my notes, images, websites, text, articles, etc. Literally my only complaint about Evernote is that I find myself using it so frequently that I would like to get a premium account.

Picasa Photos
Picasa and Picasa Web Albums work together to let you do things like automatically sync photos between your computer and the web, quickly download entire original-resolution photo albums from friends and family with a click, and so on. Essentially it Google’s version of iPhoto – and Picasa gives Apple some competition. It also seamlessly integrates your Gmail account.

Hulu Desktop
A desktop version of hulu.com. (Also available for Windows)

Simplify Media
This app allow you to stream music between computers via the Internet. Yep, Simplify will let you play your entire library on your computer (as long as your library powered up and online).

TweetDeck
TweetDeck is a desktop app that connects you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook and more. This application shows you everything you want to see at once, so you can stay organized and up to date. There’s an iPhone app too.

Mojo
A must download! Download music from your friends’ iTunes libraries over the internet and home network with Mojo.

AppCleaner
Installing an application distributes many files throughout your System using space of your Hard Drive unnecessarily. AppCleaner finds all these small files and safely uninstalls the program for your computer.

Flock Browser – The Social Web Browser
Flock is a free alternative to Safari, Firefox, and other Internet browsers. Use Flock to instantly upload photos, share photos and videos by drag-n-drop, and get notified when your friends update profiles on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter  – all on your homepage! If you spend lots of time on social web sites, like my pseudo-brother Sandy, this is the perfect browser for you.

Burn
Simple burning for Mac OS. A program with the ability to burn files, folders, mp3s, etc. to a disk (i.e. cd, dvd). Think Roxio for a Mac.

The Unarchiver
A unpacker (extractor) program for Mac. Think WinZip (Windows) for a Mac.

SnapNDrag
Screen Capture Made Easy. SnagNDrag is screenshot application similar to the pre-installed program, Grab.  If you’re a Mac user patiently awaiting a SnagIt version for Mac, wait no more!

YouTube Downloader
A program that allows you to download videos from YouTube and other video sites. It also has the functionality to convert files into formats suitable for iPod, iPhone, PSP, mobile phones, Windows Media, XVid and MP3.  (Also available for Windows)

Have one that’s not listed above? Did you download a program at usingmac.com and really enjoy it? Send me an email then look for your recommendation in next month’s post.

Have an iPhone too? Click here for a list of great iPhone apps; some I can’t live without, other I use sparingly and some were recommended by my family and friends.
